For Dummies book company launches a GPS unit

...For dummies

NEWS: 3 July 2007 7:33 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

The company behind the infamous and much parodied "For Dummies" series of know-how books is planning to launch a GPS unit in the States.

Unsurprisingly, the USP for this unit, also known as the FD-35, will be its ease of use and is touted as having the "World’s User-Friendliest Interface".

Manufactured by Maylong, the unit looks pretty standard offering what we've come to expect from so many mid-range satnav devices.

Features include a 3.5-inch touchscreen, MP3 player, points of interest, SD card slot with just the text-to-speech navigation perhaps raising it above more bog standard devices.

Where this differs is that the user interface has been given a "For Dummies" makeover, according to the blurb:

"The familiar, easy-to-use For Dummies style, complete with icons, leads you through the user interface and instruction guide."

This unit will go on sale in America in October, just in time for the "holiday" season, other units are planned for the future, including a 4.3-inch widescreen version.
