Last.fm adds Sony artists to recommendation list

12 July 2007 14:30 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Last.fm has struck a deal with Sony that means the website services music listeners will now be able to access Sony's entire music catalogue.

The service, which hit the headlines earlier this year after being bought by CBS, allows users to connect with other listeners with similar music tastes and build there own radio stations to listen to.

The software then tracks what listeners play and suggests recommendations accordingly.

"We've always aimed to have everything ever recorded available to listen to on our site, and having access to Sony's collection of some of the world's most popular music takes us another huge step closer", said Martin Stiksel, co-founder of the service.

Also this week in the world of playlist recommendations the developers behind Peter Gabriel-supported music recommendation software The Filter have announced a social version of the application, designed for inclusion in Facebook and MySpace pages.

The widget lets users share music tastes on MySpace or Facebook pages.
