At the time, the RS Computer was revolutionary, involving a pedometer computer chip inside the trainer. Info from the pedometer, distance run and the like, could be downloaded to your Apple II via the game port and a big ol' chunky lead (no easily removed parts back then). Sadly with no electronic components, these nonetheless evoke the retro tech spirit, so are a decent, and probably less smelly, alternative.
