According to reports from Japan Sony has started offering more Blu-ray tech support to the adult film industry.

Described as an important step for the Blu-ray disc format, it's said to be porn that played a part in the VHS victory over Betamax way back when.

Previously Sony (and the other big Blu-ray player Walt Disney) had objected to pornography on the format, Disney understandably has a policy of not letting its own movies be replicated by any company working with adult movies.

A spokesperson for Sony apparently said that their policy of not allowing its disc replicating subsidiary, Sony DADC, to copy adult films has not changed, but the company is now offering support to film makers, no matter what industry.

This news would suggest that Sony is pulling out all the stops, even those previously considered undesirable, to make sure that Blu-ray is the winning format in the next-gen DVD war.

Compared to the States, where HD DVD leads the adult market field, there is apparently only one adult movie HD DVD available in Japan.

There are already ten pornos out on Blu-ray Disc with more on the way. Yoshimasa Nozu, a producer at Total Media Agency says his company plans to release at least one blue movie per month on Blu-ray for the rest of this year.
