Mozilla releases two "critical" Firefox security patches

Strongly recommended

NEWS: 31 July 2007 14:04 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

Mozilla has released two "critical" security patches today for Firefox, its web browser.

The updates, part of the latest 2.0.0.6 release, should auto-update for anyone Firefox 2.0.

This should happen over the next 48 hours, if not you can initiate it manually by selecting "Check for Updates…" from the Help menu.

Mozilla advises: "Due to the security fixes, we strongly recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to this latest release".

The flaws addressed by these updates were discovered two weeks ago and published on the internet.

The security flaw could make Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Firefox jointly launch malicious software without authorisation.

The revelation sparked a disagreement between Microsoft and Mozilla about who was to blame.

Mozilla later admitted that there was a problem with both programmes.
