LG first to Freeview Playback certification with "Time Machine" TVs

Products with extra Freeview features coming to market

NEWS: 10 August 2007 13:48 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

LG Electronics has become the first manufacturer to receive Group 2 Freeview Playback certification for its upcoming Time Machine LCD and plasma TV range.

Developed by the Digital Television Group (DTG), the industry association for digital television in the UK, the testing criteria ensures product quality for consumers.

James Atkins, marketing manager for LG brown goods comments, "As consumer lifestyle becomes more and more hectic, our new range of Freeview Playback certified Time Machine TVs ensures that favourite programmes will never be missed".

"It allows you to fit TV around your life, whether you press record when you go out on the town, or pause a live game whilst getting a beer, you'll never have to miss a thing."

Intelligent features under the Group 2 certification include "schedule tracking" and "auto-buffering" to ensure that any changes in schedule caused by breaking news or overrunning sporting events do not cause recordings to be missed.

Additionally, consumers will be able to use a "series recording" function to record an entire series with a push of a button.

LG's new gloss black Time Machine HD Ready LT75 LCD series will be available in 32, 37 and 42 inches and the PT85 plasma range in 42 and 50 inches.

The new Time Machine TVs will allow consumers to pause, record and rewind live TV from over 40 free channels directly from its in-built electronic programme guide. The new range will be available from October 2007.
