HTC launches the HTC TyTN II in Europe

All hail the Kaiser

NEWS: 28 August 2007 15:10 GMT by Amy-Mae Elliott

HTC has unveiled the HTC TyTN II, a Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone, to be launched across a range of operators in Europe under in-house branding, as well as direct under the HTC name.

Building on the success of the first HTC TyTN and featuring high speed HSDPA connectivity, in-built GPS for personal navigation and an innovative adjustable screen angle, HTC are describing this device is the "ultimate mobile companion".

The TyTN II offers a new form factor - the 2.8-inch colour screen slides back to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, then tilts up to position the screen for what HTC say is perfect for reading and creating emails and using applications.

Offering tri-band UMTS and quad-band EDGE, it boasts high speed HSDPA connectivity as well as 802.11b/g Wi-Fi to help ensure users can enjoy high-speed surfing, uploading and downloading while roaming anywhere in the world.

HTC HomeTM, HTC’s new homescreen, offers easy access to photo dialing, text messages, calendar entries, e-mails and contacts, as well as one touch access to live weather conditions plus 4-day forecasts.

As well as all the productivity gubbins you get with Windows Mobile 6 Professional, further applications such as a business card scanner and TomTom Navigator 6 (although just a "taster" edition) to complement the in-built GPS are included.

The launch also sees the introduction of "HTCmail" a fully hosted, secure, and managed email service based on Microsoft Hosted Exchange.

HTCmail will offer real-time access to up to five different email accounts, either personal or work mailboxes, aggregated and instantly delivered to a mobile device through Outlook 2007.

HTCmail features include email, contacts and calendar are will be compatible with all HTC devices, rolling out across selected European markets from September.

"Today’s launches – both HTC TyTN II and HTCmail – are all about fast, easy access on the move to the kind of features and connectivity previously reserved for the PC world", said Florian Seiche, vice president of HTC Europe.

The device will see from September launches with operators across Europe including Orange, T-Mobile, Telefonica Group and Vodafone, as well as direct under the HTC brand.
