The whole tech world seems to live in some strange 1950's world when it comes to designing for women.

A friend of mine writes a blog that documents this curious phenomenum:

yes, I agree, its so damn obvious to the pink thing. Working educated women are sick of the barbiefication of technology. Some research i have conducted with 750 british women highlighted that only 9% of women want a gadget that looks 'feminine' let alone pink. Do they want something that is beautifully designed, sophisticated- absolutely. There are so many missed opportunities for technology companies.

Hi Belinda - thanks for your post. Why are they so blinkered then, do you think?

Lack of influential female execs? They must research these things...

i think many companies don't realise the financial opportunity of the female market i.e not just the girl tween market who love pink. women are so much more financially independent now and as you say are underrepresented in the boardrooms in tech companies, hence tech companies tend to fall into the stereotypes and cliches. now women;s ownership of tech products such as HDTV, PVR's, digital cameras is equal to men, in some instances such as HDTV higher than men.
