Talk / Gadgets / Audio / PC Stereo Speakers

By Swifty, Fri 16 Mar 2007 at 10:00am      Link

I'm looking to upgrade my PC speakers from a pair of SONY SRS-A60's to a pair of Creative Gigaworks T20 PC Speakers.

I'm interested if people think there's something better. I want a pair of speakers that will sit either side of my PC display and sound good. I can shake the foundations with my QUAD/Kef HiFi if needed, so the PC can manage with quality over quantity of sound!

I suspect I'll be in the market for a better sound card for my PC. My PC is supplied by my employer, ad has a SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio card; I'll probably go for an external USB soundcard (Creative Audigy 2 NX?) I'm interested in opinions about this as well.

That is a piece of string question, or rather a thickness of wallet one. There will always be 'something better' until you get into the multi-thousand pound bracket and even then you could gold plate them for a bit of additional bling :)

However, for the money the T20 make for a compelling set of 2 channel speakers that look cool and sound tight.

I'd say go for it...

I deserve shooting for this. I started gaming with Sennheiser headphones :(

Sad, I know, but literally, you can hear nothing of the outside world, not the phone, not the baby crying, someone breaking into the house... I was pretty amazed at how much I didn't hear through the speakers - but still, I was using the supplied speakers, and was pushed for space so it seemed a no brainer

Of course if you are really mad you want to get yourself an ambx set from Philips.

Not only will it give you sound, but also promises to blow you away with its built in fan and light show in relation to what's going on in the game.

Swifty, I work for Creative' PR firm so thought I might be able to give you a couple of pointers - as far as external stuff goes, I'd give it a couple of months an wait for more of the X-Fi stuff to appear. The T20's are a pretty storming 2.0 speaker set (see the P'Lint review) but if you're looking for an upgrade, have a look at the Xmod

i have a creative travelsound 200, been using that for over 2 years now, and it serves its purpose well. i "hacked" a usb and a cross-jack of sorts from a busted transformer to power my speakers when i'm on my portable though.
