Review: I purchased this recorder from Curry's at , wait for it, a staggering £900. Yes I was ripped off and fully cognisant of the fact, however I, like a lot of human beings, was too impatient to wait.

The machine is good and like all Sony products lives up to it's build quality and performance although the response times after a remote button is pressed can be agonisingly long.

I have connected via the HDMI port to my 42" Panasonic Viera HD plasma screen TV and quality of playback from DVD's is good, although not up to HD quality

As I understand it the machine cannot playback HD DVD's or Blu-Ray discs so what was the point of the HDMI port?
Pros: Good all round build quality and video output.
Cons: Ridiculous rip off price in the UK(as of November 2005)

Review: I purchased this unit for £560 off the internet and yes it is a high price but its brand new technology. I have read the other reviewers but it looks like they don’t even own the machine What do they expect, you could by a 32 inch telly for £2000 last year and now they are £700 or less, this happens. As for the RDR-HXD910 what an amazing bit of kit, the HDMI up scaling is fantastic (I don't see many other freeview HDD DVD recorders doing that). If you have sky you can burn your films onto disk to keep forever or from freeview at high speed. Also it has a series link on time slots for ever (unlike sky+ that is on the program) you can record your old VHS tapes onto the HDD and then edit them to put onto DVD and bin off your VCR player. All this with multi-pull inputs add an amp and you have your full surround sound system. From someone who owns one THIS IS A FABULOUS PIECE OF KIT.

Review: I suspect this last reviewer refers to an alternative model. "TDR-HX910" (assuming he means "RDR") is the non-digibox equipped older generation model. This is the RDR-HXD - the "D" being the important bit. I too, however agree with the first post, in that we in the UK are getting ripped off on price. If it came in at £300-£400 then it might be worth it, but for the prices I've seen it at currently, it’s just too much and it doesn't have dual-tuners. But otherwise, I'd have one.

Review: I used to have the RDR-HXD900. That model could change the channels on the cable TV box through an IR cable. So you could tell the recorder to record cable channel 5 at 10:00 and cable channel 8 at 11:00 and it would change the channel on the cable TV box accordingly. But the new model, the TDR-HX910 cannot do that! So when you have to manually set the channel on the cable TV box to channel 5, you then have to hope nobody will change that channel when you're gone. Sony has gone backwards!

Review: I'm afraid I have to agree with my fellow reviewer - a great set of specifications on this machine but the price differential between the US and UK is unforgivable. I was waiting for this machine to come out but now I feel very let down and won't be buying one on principle. Get your act together Sony UK.

Review: This device would certainly fulfil all the needs I have of TV recording. But the fact that it is twice the price that it sells for in America says more about Sony UK playing us for suckers. I will boycott till they lower the price to around 200 great British Pounds (oh and they might also add another two digituners, for a total of three). I could live with a much smaller hard disk, if it was upgradeable (with any STD hard disk). Otherwise I can get a pretty nice PC with some media extensions that do all this.
