19 May 2005 - No Jedi wannabe is complete without his or her lightsabre at their side. While the Force FX Star Wars Lightsabres This product was kindly loaned to us by (reviewed here) may offer the perfect accompaniment for the hardened fan, they wouldn't stand up two seconds in a full on duel.

For that, you supposedly need Hasbro's slightly cheaper Lightsabre range. Featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu and Darth Vader options the plastic lightsabre is idea for battling it out for control of the universe.

Load the stick up with 3 AA batteries and you're in action. Once on, the lightsabre will glow - in this case blue, although we found that for the best results you need to be in a dark room.

Every time you clash with something else, be it another lightsabre or even your dog's head, the device will make a ‘battle-clash' sound giving you the effect that it really is real.

Aside from that, there is little to it.

VERDICT
Just like toy swords, this toy can be lethal, not only to those getting swiped, but those holding it as the grip is sharp in places. Worse still, those in the near vicinity should make sure they stand well clear as this toy has a good 3ft of length to cause damage. Finally the parent’s standard bugbear - insist on using three batteries rather than two and you’ll end up buying 12 in total just to have enough for replacement sets.

Should you or shouldn't you? It all comes down to how much you really do like that vase on the mantle piece, and just how long the hype surrounding the final film takes to die down. That is, unless you’re an adult and are only reading this to check the investment potential.
