Marie Antoinette - DVD Can Dunst and Coppola pull off history for the MTV generation?
Quick review
- The good
- Coppola presents her tale with an arresting visual flair, Dunst is perfectly cast as the virgin queen, the filmmakers were allowed unprecedented access to the magnificent halls of Versailles
- The bad
- We see nothing of the Dauphin’s political fumblings, the peasants’ hardships, or even Antoinette’s death, the MTV pop soundtrack will not sit well with purists, the lacklustre special features package
- Verdict
- While it all looks good enough to eat on the surface, there is little of any nourishment beneath
