Quick review

The good: Coppola presents her tale with an arresting visual flair, Dunst is perfectly cast as the virgin queen, the filmmakers were allowed unprecedented access to the magnificent halls of Versailles
The bad: We see nothing of the Dauphin’s political fumblings, the peasants’ hardships, or even Antoinette’s death, the MTV pop soundtrack will not sit well with purists, the lacklustre special features package
Verdict: While it all looks good enough to eat on the surface, there is little of any nourishment beneath
