Apocalypto - DVD review
Worth a gander or more gruesome tales from Gibson?
Quick Review
| Published: | 16 June 2007
| The good: | Using indigenous actors and the original Yucatec language gives Apocalypto a grippingly authentic feel, Gibson and Safinia’s subtle approach to the collapse of the Mayan civilisation, the exhilarating extended chase sequence that closes the movie
| The bad: | Gibson should have cut 10-15 minutes from the meandering second act, the clumsy religious analogy in the final scenes, some particularly gruesome scenes may leave viewers feeling queasy
| Verdict: | Gibson has a created a gore fest with a grippingly authentic feel
