Review: I've had this for 3 months now. I've not experienced any other SatNav systems,
so can't really compare with others. It's competent enough when you've got it
programmed, but no better than someone with a map sitting next to you. Except it doesn't get upset when you ignore its instructions, like humans do. The instructions are loud and clear, although it is inconsistent on counting exits on roundabouts. My biggest gripes are: 1. It crashes the PDA. I thought it was a fault with the PDA and sent it back to HP. They found no fault and I discovered that if the SD card with the Via Michelin software is not in, the PDA doesn't crash, but if it is in, then it has to be soft reset about once every 3 times I turn it on. 2. It won't accept full postcodes. 3. Top-level postcodes only identify one settlement (alphabetically the first, I think). 4. Some addresses can be found, but when you try to navigate to them, the software flashes the screen continuously. This seems to happen if it's a
pedestrianised street. 5. Some of the routes chosen are bizarre. Who in their right mind would go M40, M25, M1 in the rush hour to get to Milton Keynes, which is about 40 miles longer than the shortest distance on perfectly good, uncongested A-roads? 6. When you set off, it doesn't tell you which way to go. 7. The instructions are inadequate. Compared with the Pocket-lint review, I don't find the cradle too big, but access to the on/off button would be nice to have. Mine does charge the PDA, though, when it's connected to the cigarette light socket. And, unless they are extremely well hidden, I only have UK maps.
