Review: The Sony Ericsson w980 combines top of the range technology with an easy to use interface, whilst its common to see phones that contain mp3 player functionality you dont often see what is in effect 2 different devices in one, close the phones flip lid and an external screen allows you to browse and control your collection of music which can be up to 8gb (which is huge for a mobile phone), the camera is 3.2 megapixel which is equavilant to the digital camera i bought a few years back, everything really is simple to navigate, the phone contains a built in motion sensor which allows you to (if turned on) change the song playing by simply shaking your phone, the phone is also capable of handling 3d games, mine came with the new need for speed game installed which also makes use of the motion sensor by allowing you to turn the car by tilting phone in direction required. bundled with the phone is a very good quality pair of in ear sound isolating headphones. If you want to hear music from your phone in your car you can use the built in fm transmitter to stream your music over, the sound quality is superb. Sony have supplied some very handy applications with this phone such as musicmate which contains a guitar tuner chord chart and metronome great for a muscian on the road. only bad point about this phone at all is the lack of memory card slot but hell with 8gb internal memory i doubt anyone would ever use a memry card with this phone if they could.
Pros: Fm Transmitter.

huge internal memory

very high quality camera
Cons: lack of memory card slot
Score: 9/10

Review: With it's hidden controls and funky touch screen walkman cover the new Sony W980 looks funky, minimalist and intriguing.

Never having had a Walkman phone before, my favourite feature is of course the MP3 player. With 8GB of memory this actually holds more tracks than my iPod!

There are no buttons on the front but a cool touch screen that controls your music without having to open up the phone itself (or you can use the uber cool shake control which allows you to change tracks with the flick of the wrist!). This enables easy access to move through tracks and playlists, making this feel and look more like an MP3 player than a mobile phone.

The music quality is excellent and the phone sounds as good as it looks, both via the speaker and the headphones.

The cover is sleek and sexy with a discreet camera lens at the back of the phone, the camera itself offers 3.2 mega pixels and gives fantastic clear photos, including a zoom option and the inbuilt 'PhotoDJ' feature for editing and adding fun to your photos, which can be sorted, tagged and stored all on the phone. The video recorder is also of a superior quality with both sound and movement crisp and clear. Videos can also be edited using 'VideoDJ'.

Another great feature is the FM radio, which tunes in automatically and is listened to through the handsfree, providing a great sound with no interference.

The phone itself (in case you forget that what this actually is!) is easy to get around with a detailed contacts list that offers space to save various numbers, email addresses and personal details.

There are also loads of great features and applications, making the W980 my personal favourite and relegating my iPod, phone and camera to the back of the drawer!!
Pros: Amazing sound quality

Fantastic and easy to use camera and video recorder

PhoneDJ feature

Easy access to your music without opening the phone

Huge 8GB memory

Shake control
Cons: I didn't realise that in order to prevent the MP3 player from playing unexpectedly in your bag you need to lock the screen using the slide button on the side...!!! user error!
