Review: Great camera. 'Does exactly what is says on the box'. However this is the most breakable camera alive!!!! I have just broken my display by placing the camera (wrapped in a sock) in my shoulder bag and driving home. When I got home and turned the camera on the display was cracked and ruined! Maybe my mobile felt jealous and sabotaged it?? It is the most sensitive camera around prone to breakages, it should be called 'Canon Eggshell'.

Review: This is a good camera let down by the fragility of the LCD screen - don't think of carrying one in your pocket with some form of LCD screen protection. Unless on warranty the cost of replacing the screen is almost as much as a new camera.

Review: I saw the Ixus 40, loved it and bought it instantly. Generally, the functions provided are excellent. The picture quality is fine and the zoom mechanism is quiet and smooth. The only setback is the Li-Ion battery pack cannot last more than 100 shots, it is even worse if you take more pictures with the flash mode. Secondly, the battery/memory card compartment is very flimsy and I guess it'll break. I guess Canon should look into this matter seriously as these "small setbacks" could tarnish such a great invention by Canon. If you are looking for a simple-to-use digicam, look no further, the picture quality produced by the Ixus 40 is top rated!

Review: Wonderful aluminum build quality. Connected straight to my iBook G4 seamlessly integrating with iPhoto. Just using it as a 'point & shoot' camera, I get consistent results time after time. A4 prints are fantastic, even using Ilford glossy photo paper from Argos, and a cheapo Lexmark printer; colour balance, contrast and exposure are so natural, that you simply don't need any of the manual settings. They are more of a gimmick.... Downsides are proprietary rechargeable battery pack (good for over 100 pictures, but suddenly runs out of juice), and pathetic 16MB supplied SD card. I got a 128MB card, and this is good for 60-odd pictures at full resolution; easily enough for day to day stuff. As a footnote, I bought the camera at Currys, top service, £200. If it does go wrong, I only need to go to my local shop, rather than send it to some weird PO Box in France or somewhere, and wait weeks for it to be fixed!!! Internet shopping is OK, but not that good.......

Review: This camera is great. It fits easily, even with an appropriate after-market case, into any pocket. Fast, intuitive, highly functional, I get to take snapshots and be creative with the flexible manual controls. Comes recommended.

Review: This is a good camera but after 2 weeks I got an E18 error message. The camera has to be sent back to Canon for repairs. This apparently is a common problem.

Review: Iíve recently just purchased this camera. I found the larger than normal screen on the back a major plus, also, the camera has a good continuous shooting mode, which was a requirement for me. I was considering other cameras, but once I saw this camera and went through its features, it was a standout!

Review: I bought this camera in Singapore just last week largely because of the IXUS reputation. Suffice to say it's intuitive to use, takes excellent pictures and its small size is great for the size conscious (a tad larger than the palm of the hand). The 16MB SD card as standard is a shame but you can pick up a 1GB card for about £60. If you're looking for a great digital camera, you've found it.
Posted: 15 December 2004

Review: I got one last week, and itís brilliant. The video is excellent, even though it only focuses at the start of a clip, itís small size and that thereís no image stabilization, which means it can be a bit jerky. I suggest getting a video stabilizer filter from the net.
Posted: 03 December 2004
